Kai Greene
Here is a video link to the one and only Kai Greene. He is one of the most inspirational bodybuilder out there! There re many videos of him, but this one has a good collection of the best bits from a few of the video's out there. It's such a good quick insight into the man that is Kai Greene, and I really suggest you watch it! ALL OF IT!

A few days off...
Finally got back in the gym today after two days out. I try not to take breaks from actually going to the gym, and rather have "active" rest, by still going to the gym and either having a cardio session or core workout if my body needs a rest from the weights. But due to other "life" stuff I had two days off, and it was good to get back in today.

First Event - Fame UK 2011
I have decided that the first time I am going to approach the stage is going to be at the 2011 Fame UK show. This is a natural show of course, and involves a range of competitors from all levels. There are also various categories, including beach body for those with out the mass of bodybuilding. I have the bodybuilding category in my sights though!!
The competition from last year was pretty good, and I'm sure it's going to be attracting a lot of competition in 2011. They have sponsorship from Ultra-Fit magazine, who go on to write and article about the winners, so that's even more exposure up for grabs!
The 2011 show takes place as part of the Worlds Strongest Man contest, so there's going to be added television opportunities!
So the dates are 4th & 5th June 2011........that's the first stepping stone I'm going to be climbing upon!

Arm Day and Finding Your Rep Range
Had an arm day today, which was a good session. At the moment I have put arms on their own to give them a bit more attention and allow for a bit more weight to be moved, where as putting them with a push/pull day can sometimes take the endurance away for the big weights.
Barbell curl
Hammer curl
Rope hammer curl
Preacher curl
Close grip bench press
Cable push down
Bench dip
Skull crushers (Lying triceps extension)
I'm working in the 8-12 rep range at the moment, but I'm also going with how the set feels. I'm using weights which at the time I feel I can hit the range with, but also, if I can push it more on certain set then I will. I use the rep range as a guidance. So if I can push a weight to 15,16, even 20 then I will. Then of course I will put the weight up for the next set. I think working by instinct in this way is a good method. Sticking to a range and stopping just because you hit a number can leave you short changed in your workout!! I'm at a level where I know how my muscle should feel when it's getting hit hard, and that's what matters, not checking off a pre-determined number!
Also added in forearm work which I'm gonna be continuing.
Reverse grip cable curl
Wrist curl
Reverse grip wrist curl
Gotta keep up the forearm work from now on. Never payed continuous attention to my forearms, but as these small body-parts are going to be just as open to judgment as the rest of me, I need to pick it up!

Post Leg session
It's been a few days since my leg session with Marina Cornwall. As I said in my video diary, it was a seriously hard session! But the recover has been good. After expecting a huge amount of D.O.M.S, I think I got off lightly. My Quads were in a bit of pain the next evening, but they then began to get better! Which is a good turnaround time from what I'm used to with legs. I'm putting that down to the fact my legs are finally getting used to the training effect, and the increased amount of protein I am consuming to help with both growth and recovery.
Here's what we did....
Deep squats 4 sets (final 100kgs x 8)
Leg press 4 sets (final 200kgs x 6)
Walking lunges 3 x 2 laps with 14kg dumbbells
Leg Extension (pulses on top half)
Calf raise super-set (Smith machine, 3 point calf raise, standing calf raise)
We had some stretching and massage though-out, utilising the PowerPlate.

Measurements and Posing
New measurements have now been taken, as I said in my video diary. I'll list a few so that you guys can get an idea of my size at the moment.....
Height ......................6' 2 Inches
Bodyweight..............87.4KGs
Body fat...................20.5%
Chest........................42 1/4 Inches
Upper thigh (L)........24 1/4 Inches
Upper thigh (R)........24 Inches
Calf (L).....................14 1/2 Inches
Calf (R).....................14 1/4 Inches
Biceps Flexed (L).....16 1/2 Inches
Biceps Flexed (R).....16 1/4 Inches
Obviously lacking in some areas, and there is a slight imbalance in some pairs of muscles. But, its a starting point. Legs are the main focus of course! So they're getting hit as and when they feel recovered.
There are more posing shots, but I'm thinking of more practice before they make it online!! Was quite pleased with the Lat spread, though I need to work on my lower back more.

It begins....
This is entry number one! The purpose of this blog is to track and capture my journey towards my dream of becoming a professional bodybuilder. It sounds crazy right? Or like a passing thought of a dream - one a guy in a gym might have just because he wants to be bigger!! But this is more than that....I am going to catalogue my training and my progress yes. But I am also going to uncover my dreams, uncover my motivations, go into what makes this aspiration my path of choice and hopefully inspire and educate along the way.
I have been training myself for a number of years, and my training has always been a cornerstone of my life. Something from which I gain strength, balance and at times, resolve.
