For those of you avid fans of the pros, as am I, you will of heard that both Kai Greene and Phil Heath are sitting the Arnold Pro out this year and fully concentrating on the Olympia. It's a big decision by both athletes.
A decision that will make the 2011 Mr Olympia title one of huge speculation. I think that Phil Heath has made the move to truly go for Jay Cutlers crown. In a close battle for the 2010 Olympia, the only real difference in the prep, one might think is that Jay took the year to concentrate on that one show. Where as Phil didn't. Maybe Phil thinks this extra bit of focus on one time frame, and one show will help him push Jay off the top spot. I have to say though, that I hope Phil stays true to his body and keeps his classic lines and awesome proportions. In the race that Phil Heath seems to want to run, he may be tempted to tackle Jay Cutlers size, and risk loosing his lines. Because in reality, it was mass that put Jay ahead of Phil in 2010 I think....
With Kai, I think he want's the results so bad that he has again looked at what the other guy at the top is doing. This is fair enough on his part, but I think he needs to be a bit careful. At both the Arnold and Olympia in 2010 he didn't dial in the condition 100% compared to the year before, and not quite sure what else went wrong with the Olympia. The benefit is I guess, that he still needs to compete in a show in order to qualify for the 2011 Olympia, so he can have a real look at his progress in that show (whatever one he decided to do), and then hopefully hit the mark come Olympia time September.
As you may have guessed I'm a massive Kai fan, so I hope he hits it this year. But I got a lot of respect for Phil, and he was looking good last year, and only just missed out to Kai at the Arnold, let alone giving Jay a run for his money. He's good, and will take a lot to beat. With these two fighting it out, I think Jay might loose out to one, or even both of them this year.
I'm looking forward to following their progress though-out the year, and hopefully seeing what they are bringing to the stage at least slightly before the day.
